Non-Verbal Communication

Non-Verbal Communication

Non verbal forms of communication were developed as an augmentative/ alternative method that allows nonverbal children and adults with autism and other communication deficits to initiate communication.

There has been a greater trend for schools and therapists to incorporate a visual AAC program using either picture exchange communication system (PECs), visual communication, sign language or augmentative communication devices. The ability to communicate a request or a specific need helps to abate the behaviors that often occur from frustration.
