Visual Schedules

Many children with ASD understand by seeing rather than hearing. Visual schedules display planned activities in symbols that are understood in the order in which they will occur. Visual schedules and picture exchange communication system (PECS) help the child move from one activity to the next with less frustration because the symbols turn the unknown into something the child understands. Visual schedules are typically presented in a notebook or binder, wall chart, or mini schedules which can clarify the activities for the day.

 

The pictures, symbols, notebooks and manuals presented here will prove invaluable to parent and educators. It is not uncommon to see a decrease in a child's aggression or frustration after using visuals as they are now able to better communicate their wants and needs.
