RiJe Dysphagia Drinking Cup

I bought these type cups as my individual was able to take the lid off the others and chug the liquid, risking potential problems. Your cup doesn't afford the opportunity for the lid to just be popped off. I would say the plastic on the base could be stronger, as this is where we, as caregivers, tend to grip to gain the torque necessary to open the cup and have already cracked one of the bases. But otherwise, it is a WONDERFUL cup!

This cup is exactly what I had been needing for my mother but didn't know until I found it. She has dementia and because her ability to swallow is diminished, all of her liquids need to be thickened. She's not even sucking through a straw anymore. Because of the medication she takes, her mouth is always dry and she's always thirsty. She would have to wake me up every time she needed a drink (by spoon) so I wasn't sleeping much. Now there's always a thickened drink right at her fingertips. She sleeps on a hospital bed with her head elevated and we keep her cup on a bedside tray that swings over her in bed. With 2 hands, she can easily pick it up and take a drink. She doesn't get too much that would cause her to aspirate because the Rije Dysphgia Drinking Cup is created with the ability to control how much is dispensed per swallow. The only thing that she doesn't like is she says there's a strange "plastic" flavor to the cup. Of course the cup IS plastic so that shouldn't be a surprise. I have tasted her drinks and I do not taste anything out of the ordinary so she doesn't complain about it anymore.

Works very well. We set it up to dispense the 7ml sip and the cup does just that, this sip is satisfying for my son and he loves big handles. Neat, thanks
