The Discovery Series DCP Mini Tricycle is designed for small children with special needs as a great way to gain therapeutic advantages from an activity they love.

From those with simple balance problems to more involved cases of cerebral palsy, spina bifida, downs syndrome, head injury, muscular dystrophy, autism and little people, the Discovery series offers therapy and fun. This bike provides children with the external support necessary for them to work on their own strength and coordination while increasing their motivation. This bike has the traditional Discovery features, which even includes the rear steering option, and a cool squeaky animal horn.

Discovery Series DCP Mini Tricycle Features:
    • Optional rear steering system available that allows the caregiver to steer, or brake from the rear of the mobility device. Once the rider becomes more comfortable with reciprocal movement, an adjustment can be made allowing the rider to control, or assist with the navigation of the bike
    • The pass through design, and adjustable handlebars that can move completely out of the way for easy unobstructed on/off transfers, make this model very user friendly
    • Features an adjustable seat in high back style complete with safety belt(s)
    • The unique crank and sprocket that can be adjusted in all directions to accommodate different hip to foot positions
    • Discreet assistance handle so the rider can learn to ride and stop with a little help
    • Independently adjustable handlebars and telescopic posts move up, down, or forward to meet the special needs of the riders
    • Direct drive and low gear ratios that make pedaling easy for a beginner, yet challenging for an aggressive rider
    • Velcro straps to keep feet on the molded ABS plastic pedals and optional supporting foot plates.
    • Locking hand brake mechanisms for easy mounting and dismounting
    • Quick release bolts on all adjustable components
    • Powder baked paint ensures durability, years of good looks
    • Includes standard accessories package:
      • Self centering spring
      • Locking hand brake

Will I be able to utilize this mobility device with my disability?
Yes! In most instances where there is some form of movement in the legs with the proper combination of traditional physical therapy and our mobility device, most people can propel the devices on their own.

How old do I have to be?
Although size is more of an important guideline than age, the Discovery Mini is designed for children as young as 1 year old and up to 5 years old. The Discovery 12 is appropriate for children 4 to 8 years old.

How long does it take to get?
On average, the Discovery Series tricycles take four to six weeks, depending on the time of year. Delivery time also depends on in stock items, so please call us at 1-877-664-4565 for more information.

What size of Mobility device is good for me?
We definitely need your total height, weight, and inseam length at a minimum. We always recommend that you also fill out our Evaluation Form.

Does any one ever get funding? Are these devices covered by insurance?
Yes. However, it is not without some work on your behalf. Here's how some have been successful:
    1. Get your orthopedic surgeon to write up an order.
    2. Have your Physical or Occupational Therapist fill out the evaluation sheet and possibly write up a medical justification letter.
    3. Do a personal letter stating why you need the device.
    4. Have your General Practitioner or Pediatrician make up a letter of need.
    5. Send along a copy of our device.
    6. The old saying "Squeaky wheel gets the grease" definitely applies here. We can help you with samples of these types of letters and forms that past customers have shared with us.

If all that work fails don't give up - we have a number of financial options available to you, as well as there are many social groups in your area that are always willing to help individuals and families like yourselves. For example, Elks, Lions, Kinsmen, Shriners, and associations such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, CNIB etc. You can find a full list of Funding Resources here.
