    Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is a cuddle swing like the Joki good for children with autism?
A cuddle swing could be one of the best items you buy for a child, or children, with autism. Imagine that you are off balance and the only way to feel like you're not about to drift away is to be squished tight like Flat Stanley. That's partly how autism feels -- and that's what the cuddle swing helps make better.

One reason those affected by autism feel this way is due to vestibular dysfunction. Seeing, hearing and touching is all part of the vestibular system. Dr. Temple Grandin said "...autistic children will often seek out deep pressure sensation." Dysfunctional vestibular systems can cause panic attacks, leading to the famous autism tantrums.

A cuddle swing is a simple device. It can be made on the cheap by attaching an O-ring firmly to the ceiling, then attaching a few yards of spandex. It basically squishes the child with autism, and rocks them back and forth. Even after 15 minutes, the results are excellent.

The cuddle swing was suggested by our occupational therapist to help stimulate our autism child's vestibular system, and to give deep touch pressure.

The improvements we see in our autism child are immediate and last throughout the day. It temporarily eliminates stimming,"noises" and hand flapping. The swing calms our child and helps him focus. After being in the cuddle swing, he doesn't have panic attacks and is not as anxious. He seems to fit in better with other children when he uses the cuddle swing.

Best of all, it gives parents a break. It's physically exhausting to give our son the deep touch pressure he needs. The cuddle swing is a must have autism product.
