    SENSORY IDEAS

    Description:
    • The difficulty with some bubble products is children inadvertently inhale and swallow bubble solution. This does not happen with this product.
    • Bubbles are soothing and help to reduce anxieties.
    • Bubbles are visually stimulating to watch.
    • The Glitter Bug is long enough for a child to successfully blow bubbles without having to touch the bubble solution, which may cause defensive reactions.
    • Helpful hint: “Prime” the Glitter Bug by dipping it into the bubble solution and blowing it out about six times prior to giving it to a child to play. This helps the bubble solution to gather in the small crevices of the ring and produce better bubbles.
    Skills:
    • Visual tracking skills are used when following a bubble until it pops.

    Play Ideas:

    • Child can make the sounds of a bug and then pretend to be that bug. For example, a bee makes the “Bzzz” sound or a fly makes an “iiiiiizzz” sound.
    • Have the child watch the spinning wings and then flap her arms to fly.
    • The child can visually track the flying bug and make the bug fly to items that begin with a letter, such as “B”. For example, the bug touches the bench or book.
    • Have the child put the Glitter Bug in water and pretend it is swimming. Putting other objects in the water would help.
    • Child can make the Glitter Bug eat foods and then the child can taste different foods as well. For example, the Glitter Bug likes to eat leaves, so have the child eat lettuce or spinach, the bug likes to eat worms, so have the child eat gummy worms.
    Adaptation Ideas:
    • Use scented bubbles or add food extracts, such as mint or orange into the bubble solution.
